Kindle Fire

I have always loved to read but I don't really like going to the library nor do I have much time to find books that are good. Well that has changed since I got my Kindle Fire. I made it very clear that for my birthday I wanted a Kindle Fire. I would send Ryan texts with my birthday list and Kindle Fire was always on the list in first place. If I didn't get one for my birthday I would have just bought one for myself. It's a great device especially since I figured out how to check books out from the library. I can read more often and I never have to go to the library or better yet remember to return the books.
Here are some of the books I have read since April
*"The Affair" by Lee Child. I like his books because it's the same character, Jack Reacher, and I am getting to know Jack.
*A new author David Baldacci. I only read his Max and Michelle books. Murder mysteries that kind of scared me, especially the second book, but I had to finish reading since I had to know who done it.
*"Angel's Rest", by Charles Davis. It's great because the library has library favorites and I found this one. I really enjoyed the book.
*"The Baker's Daughter", by Sarah McCoy. A recommendation from a friend and a great read. I am currently reading another book by this author, "The Time it Snowed in Puerto Rico" and really enjoying it too.
*"Give Me Tomorrow", by Patrick O'Donnell. This is the story of George Company in the Korean War. It was very interesting and I am glad I know a little bit more about the Korean War.
*The Lucky One", by Nicholas Sparks. I enjoyed the book more than the movie.
Well here is my list, maybe it can help with some summer reading. I know I am checking out more books and the summer goes along and can't wait to continue to read.

Soul Surfer Kate

Ever since Kate watched the movie "Soul Surfer" she has wanted to surf. If you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up the answer is a surfer. We live six hours from the ocean so surfing just doesn't happen here, but Kate has figured out the next best thing, surfing on a boogie board in the pool. She has gotten really good at it and whenever we swim she gets the boogie board and surfs. She even makes me quote the movie "Soul Surfer" and if I don't get it right then she gets mad. Summer has been really fun and I can't wait to go to Cali and watch Kate really surf in the ocean.

Spoiled

I have been spoiled this past week. Ryan had a work conference in Monterey, California and I got to tag along. It is so nice to go to these conferences because they expect an "adult companion" to travel with the advisor and so Loring Ward (the company who puts on the conference) takes care of both Ryan and me. I had to spend my days wondering around Monterey and sitting on my balcony, which overlooked the bay, reading. It was a tough job but someone had to do it. Ryan had meetings and such during the day but at night he was free and he was done on Thursday at noon.
On Wednesday night, instead of going to the wine tasting dinner, we met up with Ryan's old missionary companion, Tosh and his wife Lisa, and had dinner. It was so nice to hang out and talk and we tentatively set up a vacation with them in October. I hope it happens.
On Thursday, Ryan and I rented a car and drove down to Carmel via the 17 mile drive. The drive was probably one of the prettiest places I have ever been. It was incredible and even more incredible were the homes on the drive. To think people can afford to live on 17 mile drive.
I love these conferences and I keep telling Ryan he needs to make sure Tribeca, Ryan's company, continues to use Loring Ward so we can go again and again.
Below are pictures from our drive and views from the hotel. I can never stay in a crappy hotel again because the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa was so nice. Plus my room had a balcony that overlooked the water. I fell asleep to the waves crashing against the beach. I know I have been spoilied.

My Jay is 7

My Jay McRae turned seven this past week and since I am mother of the year I was out of town. We celebrated his birthday on the Saturday and the Sunday before his birthday. Since we now have a pool we had a swim party with five of his friends. It's fun to watch the boys jump off the diving board and just be so happy swimming and hanging out in the sun. Jay has some good friends and I hope they remain friends always. On Sunday we celebrated with family. Jay got a new bike, Battleship and lots of money. I swear my kids are so rich after their birthdays. On his actual birthday he got to go to Amazing Jake's with Jack, Kate, Rachelle, Rhett, Jackie, Brookelyn and Duke, all of his babysitters. I love Ryan's family and how they so willing take care of my kids. He said he had a blast there and loved eating ice cream, climbing the rock wall, playing frog hopper and laser tag.
Jay is such a great boy. He knows what he wants and makes sure he gets it. I would say even a little stubborn sometimes.  He is super smart and a great student. He loves school and wants to be a baseball player when he grows up. Jay loves children and always wants to be around the babies or any child two or younger. He has a sweet heart one second and then not the next. I don't believe in astrology or signs or anything, except in Jay's case. He is a Gemini and he definitely has two personalities. I love my Jay and can't wait to see who he becomes.
